UU Ministerial Leadership

Session: Summer
Type: Intensive, Synchronous
Units: 3
Academic Year: 2020 - 2021
Approval Required: No

Class Schedule and Logistics:

M-F 10am – noon PST / 1pm – 3pm EST on ZOOM

Two hours of multimedia course work daily on your own schedule.

This CORE intensive course focuses on the theological foundations and habits of mind necessary to be a self-defined leader among Unitarian Universalists, either in congregations or in other UU settings. Students will have the opportunity to test their current skills in a series of real-world challenges likely to be faced in parish or community settings. The goal is to allow students the chance to confront possible issues while the stakes are low. Role playing, small group discussions, and reflection papers will be required. This is a required course for the M.Div. program.

Due to the realities of Covid-19 and the need to shelter in place, this intensive will be taught over two weeks, for four hours each day. Two of those hours will be online with classmates and the professor on zoom, and two will be via multimedia and print resources at your own pace. This is to accommodate the realities of essential workers, parents, caregivers, and all those whose lives have been made more complex in these days. Reading must still be completed BEFORE the start of the course on August 10th. Upon completion of the day’s multimedia or print resources, students will post a short reflection to the class moodle site by midnight PST. We will be joined on occasion by notable leaders within the UUA to add to our shared learning together.
