Approval to Operate

Starr King is a private, nonprofit institution of higher learning that is approved to operate by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). Approval to operate entails compliance with state standards as set forth in the California Education Code and Title 5, California Code of Regulations. Approval to operate is a recognition that the school meets minimum state standards and does not entail an endorsement of our academic programs by BPPE.

Any questions a student may have that have not been satisfactorily answered by the institution may be directed to the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education at:

School Performance Fact Sheets

As required by BPPE, Starr King publishes an annual School Performance Fact Sheet (SPFS) for each degree program. These fact sheets provide program completion rates, employment information, and federal loan indebtedness for recent student cohorts. Matriculating students must review and sign the current SPFS for their degree program before enrolling in courses.

Annual Report

Starr King must complete an annual report with BPPE and share this report on our website. Because the school has recently obtained BPPE operating approval, no annual report has yet been filed. Once it has been prepared, it will be posted here.

State Authorizations for Online Education

State authorization is a regulation of the Department of Education that requires institutions offering online or distance education programs to be authorized by each state in which the institution enrolls students, if such authorization is required by the state, or to obtain an allowable exemption.

Starr King is actively pursuing authorizations for online education or religious exemption and is currently approved in more than half of the states. Prospective students who reside in other states should contact the Director of Admissions prior to applying.
