What is a Master of Divinity?
A Master of Divinity is a graduate degree program offered at Starr King that covers the skills necessary to become a religious leader in a variety of different religious traditions. Parish ministry, community ministry, and chaplaincy are just some of the vocations that a degree in this program can prepare you for. Starr King’s M.Div. program welcomes Unitarian Universalists, Muslims, Buddhists, Wiccans, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Religious Humanists, practitioners of Indigenous Spiritual traditions, Quakers, spiritual seekers, and people with multiple religious belongings and hybrid religious identities.
Through our 90-credit program, our students meet their degree requirements through a personalized educational plan, designed in consultation with your faculty advisor, to best answer your unique calling.
Is a Master of Divinity Worth Earning?
In this program, we teach our students to answer their call and become the religious leaders our world desperately needs. Starr King’s educational model equips our students with the skills, knowledge, and professional capacity to counter oppressions; create just and sustainable communities; call forth compassion, wholeness, and liberation; and cultivate multi-religious life and learning. Upon graduation, your degree denotes that you are educated in a multidisciplinary study that combines skills in culture, history, language, and theology.
