Welcome

Starr King, a Unitarian Universalist theological school, has been educating Unitarian Universalist ministers and progressive religious leaders since 1904.

Accredited by the Association of Theological Schools and a member of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), Starr King offers M.Div., MASC and M.A. degrees as well as online courses, other continuing education opportunities for ministers and lay people and our new Seminary for the Laity online certificate program starting Fall 2007. Through the GTU, we also work with Ph.D. students preparing for vocations in scholarship and teaching.

This Web site is our virtual front door. If you came through our actual front door in Berkeley, Calif., you would be greeted by the sights and sounds of a small, lively school where people are deeply engaged in theological study. You might hear spirited conversation punctuated by loud laughter, see people sitting in quiet contemplation in the Meditation Room, or smell soup simmering in the kitchen in preparation for an evening gathering. (See Experiencing Community.)

We hope by browsing this Web site you will get a sense of our educational commitments.

We value scholarly study united with practical, experiential learning and offer personalized attention in the learning process. We respect the beauty of cultural diversity, honor interfaith and ecumenical engagement, and seek to counter oppressions.

Rooted in Unitarian Universalism's liberal religious heritage, we believe in the importance of congregational life as well as individual spiritual practice and are devoted to creating a more hopeful future that reverences life, embodies justice and sustains peace.

Enjoy your virtual visit with us. We welcome your interest in studying at Starr King School, supporting our work financially and drawing on the resources we make available through this site.

Come see us in person if you would like to explore further. Contact Student Services to arrange a visit to our Berkeley campus.
